Police staff cuts: who will do the work we do? Uniformed officers?
I work as Police Staff for a force where the Chief Constable announced 20% cuts to staff in the next year. Crime isn’t going down, and won’t as unrest grows as the most vulnerable are pushed, and the middle class squeezed and things like shoplifting, fraud and domestic violence will grow as people are feeling more desperate and under pressure.
Police staff work to free up uniformed officers to be on the streets, the work police staff do isn’t going away? So who will do it? Those frontline officers we pay double the cost of a police staff member. Am astonished, ashamed and disheartened to see such simplistic, short-sighted measures to solve the deficit, and yet leave the rich bankers etc nice and cosy.
