Housing Benefit Changes: One law for them..

Knowsley Council has just sent letters to tenants informing them about the changes in housing benefit that the ConDems are planning (The ‘bedroom’ tax).

Here are some of the things that they mentioned:

Doesn’t apply to pensioners 61+

Children under 16 of the same gender are expected to share a bedroom

Children under 10 are to share a bedroom regardless of gender

Only the main registered carer of separated parents is exempt.  So if you leave a room free for your child to stay in, but are not the registered carer, you have to pay bedroom tax.

Couples who don’t share a bedroom, second bedroom will incur bedroom tax

And probably the sickest one, For foster carers, Bedrooms left for foster children will be treated as spare rooms, theefore subject to bedroom tax.

I think what Mr Cameron is trying to say is this: Live in rented accomadation/council house (Social Housing is such a Daily Mail style term) = Scum of the Earth/peasants.  Classic Tory/Thatcherite Divide & Conquer tactics.

My brother-in-law said this about paying a mortgage, You are only renting your house from a bank/building society.  It is NOT your house until it is paid for.  You suffer the same fate as a rented tenant if you don’t pay = eviction.  People do not realise that you need substantial capital to pay for any repairs, but many people buy houses for status.

What next from this wonderful government? Paupers prisons, workhouses, ghettos for anybody earning below a certain amount?  Howabout some of these politicians set an example and demonstrate paying this tax on their multi bedroom mansions and multiple houses?

I have enclosed a link to youtube showing a small clip from an episode of Star Trek Deep Space Ning called ‘Past Tense’.  It deplicts a future, about 10/15 years from now where the poor (This includes redundant teachers, doctors, police officers), are forced to live in ‘Santuary Districts’ i.e. Nazi style ghettos for the poor, while the rich, famous and powerful live in expensive high rise apartments, blissfully unaware of what is going on around them.  A chilling depliction of the 21st Century that may be reality in the near future
