My daughter received this book through Bookstart and still loves it
This is a recording of my daughter, Rachel, ‘reading’ one of the books she received through Bookstart. When she got her book bag, she got Spot the Dog, I wish I were a dog, and Peepo, a pack of crayons, and a pack of stickers so she could put her name on her books. She was thrilled. Her friends all got their bookbags on the same day – and they shared and looked at each others’ books
We still have this book – and she still loves it. She is now able to read a few words on her own – but knows the book so well that she doesn’t let herself be troubled by not being able to read on her own yet.
Bookstart costs £13 million nationwide. Before it started, I met a 4-year-old through my work who had NEVER opened a book, and didn’t know how. That rarely happens now.
