Can’t afford to pay new charges for special educational needs transport

Lancashire county council is consulting on a proposal to start charging for school transport for children and young people over the age of 16 with special educational needs. We have three daughters with learning disabilities who rely on this transport to get to their schools.

If the council makes the change, we will have to find £1200 a year for the older two girls to keep using the transport.  We don’t have that money. We’re also worried about the council eventually introducing charging for children under 16 as well. They say that are not doing that but we are worried that once it starts for one age group, they will eventually bring it in for everyone.
