Cuts
Peterborough urgent housing repair work PE1
Peterborough City Council is planning to cut funding for urgent repair work on private housing by around 40 percent.
The council currently spends about £1.9m a year on repairs assistance grants to pay for improvements to private housing that are in need of urgent work because they are unsafe or unhealthy for their occupants. The grants are means-tested and fund a range of works including improvements to kitchens and bathrooms, damp proofing and drainage repairs.
Under the council’s proposals, funding for this work will be cut by £680k a year.
The council’s plans are currently out to public consultation along with the remainder of its proposed budget, with responses due by early February 2011.
