National Coal Mining Museum WF4
The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) will stop funding the
National Coal Mining Museum in Wakefield from 2015.
Currently DCMS provides £2.8m of the museum’s £3.2m overall funding -
meaning the museum will lose nearly 90 percent of its total budget.
Wakefield Council has said it cannot make up the funding shortfall, but the
museum’s management remains confident it can find alternate sources of
DCMS insists it will help the museum secure alternative funding, and will
not cut it adrift should this funding not materialise.
