Kids In Communication wv3
Kids In Communication (KIC) was a voluntary youth media project in the West Midlands based in Wolverhampton. For 13 years, KIC has trained over 5,000 young people improving confidence, employability and communication skills. KIC worked with disadvantaged young people from one of the most economically deprived areas of the country. KIC was run by young people to dispel negative stereotypes and help those young people create content to their and wider communities benefit. On average, KIC worked with 500 young people every year breaking every contractual target set by funding bodies.
Until the 31st March, KIC was centrally funded through an organisation called V inspired (previously Millennium Volunteers). Due to the government cuts, KIC lost all of it’s £100,000 per year funding.
This total loss of funding meant the organisation had to close it’s doors to young people. This removed 500 voluntary placements for young people at a time when they are being disproportionally burdened by government cuts. The closure meant a loss to young people of state of the art radio studios.
KIC is working hard to secure more funding and begin working with young people who need support, positive engagement and invaluable experience once again.
