Jobs set to leave Barnet as Barnet council signs massive outsourcing deal with Capita

Location: UK » London » EN

ALMOST 400 jobs are set to leave the borough as Barnet Council outsources its customer services departments as part of the One Barnet project.

Council staff will be forced to choose between leaving the capital or taking redundancy if the authority hands its new support and customer services organisation contract to public services giant Capita next month.

Public sector union Unison has criticised the Conservative council for failing to follow other UK local authorities in ensuring that outsourcing services does not lead to jobs leaving the borough.

The £320million NSCSO contract awarded to Capita in November last year, is due to be the first of two major contracts handed over under the One Barnet outsourcing project, with the £210million development and regulatory services contract yet to be awarded to bidders Capita Symonds or EC Harris LLP.
