London Councils grant cut a double whammy for INQUEST beneficiaries

For 25 years, the London Boroughs Grants Scheme, administered by London Councils, has been one of the main funders of services to many of the capital’s most disadvantaged communities including bereaved Londoners.

Following a rigorous commissioning process, INQUEST was commissioned to “provide an advice and representation service relating to inquests” for the period 1 July 2008 to 30 June 2012 at £60,000 per year. On 14 December the Leaders Committee agreed the recommendations made by the Grants Committee on 25 November to only guarantee funding to 30 June 2011 – a cut of £60,000 in INQUEST’s funding

This cut follow central government’s decision to abandon significant improvements to the coronial system as part of their cost-cutting exercise
