Early Years Consultant team, Devon

Location: UK » South West » EX

The Devon Early Years team provides advice and support to schools and settings in provision for the under fives. This includes early intervention Area SENCo role, curriculum - training packages, post OFSTED advice and support, audits of provision in day care settings and pre-schools, etc.
By the end of March this year the Early Years Team had been cut by half creating a vast hole in support for high quality early years provision.

Other cut backs in Devon include:
Cut backs to specialist advisory teams - special educational needs, ethnic minority achievement, Staff not replaced in Portage team.
Many posts lost within staff support/administration.
High levels of anxiety and demoralisation due to restructuring, uncertainty and ever increasing workloads
Over 70 advisory posts lost by April 2011 in the Devon Learning and Development Partnership (e.g. Geography, Art, Music, literacy and numeracy consultant teams, as well as the Early Years team - and many more).
