Derbyshire county council - cut to youth services DE4
A 16,500 plus petition has been collected from people throughout Derbyshire against the Council’s proposal to destroy the directly-provided Youth Service and get voluntary and community and independent organisations to provide this instead.
This will mean that 157 part-time Council Youth Workers loose their jobs, Council Youth Clubs will close and buildings belonging to the Council where Youth Clubs take place will be sold off or leases cancelled in others. The petition being over 7,500 has triggered the right to a debate which will be held in the Council meeting after the rally and questions from the public have been submitted.
The council plans to cut £21m from the budget over two years as on page 21 of this budget document:
