Croydon Council is slashing its arts and culture budget which means that the Clocktower, an arts complex comprising a cinema, bar, and event room called the Braithwaite Hall, is being closed.

A blow to culture in Croydon
I’m very saddened by the news that the well-attended and well-loved Clocktower is to close. The cinema shows a mixture of arthouse/foreign language/period films and the Hall is used for a variety of performances including comedy, jazz, theatre, etc. There will now be nowhere in Croydon to show films off the beaten track.
