County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust anticipates cutting 700 staff posts between 2011 and 2014.

The Trust will acquire local Community Health Services in April 2011, at which point it will employ 8,000 staff. While workforce plans have yet to be finalised, they are likely to include 20 percent cuts in the number of back office staff as back office functions are integrated.

The majority of the 700 headcount reduction would be from reductions in agency, temporary, bank staffing, and through natural wastage.

The Trust runs three main hospitals - Bishop Auckland General Hospital, Darlington Memorial Hospital, and University Hospital of North Durham - and also provide community hospital services from Shotley Bridge and Chester-le-Street community hospitals as well as a range of outpatient, community and outreach services from other sites.
