‘Wear It Black Day’ against cuts at Redcar & Cleveland
Where: All council workplaces in Redcar & Cleveland, Redcar & Cleveland TS10 1RT (the main council office address)
The Redcar & Cleveland branch of trade union UNISON is inviting all colleagues, residents and service users to take part in a ‘Wear It Black
Day’ on Monday 6 January 2014.
On that day, many of our fellow workers at Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council will be issued final notices of redundancy as a result of the funding cuts being imposed by the government.
UNISON branch secretary Andrew Tickle said: “The cuts imposed by the Tory-Lib Dem government represent yet another nail in the coffin of public services. The 150 job losses will have a devastating impact on the lives of hardworking council staff, their families and the communities in which they live. As a display of solidarity and to mark this grim occasion, we’re inviting everyone who cares about local services to wear black on 6 January.
We hope that councillors and managers will also show their solidarity on the day by supporting this dignified protest.”
Please support our ‘Wear It Black’ protest in any way you can - eg, black tie, shirt, blouse, shoes, trousers, skirt, shades, etc.
If you have to wear a uniform as part of your job, please be mindful to ensure that any black attire fits in with the uniform policy. But don’t worry: UNISON stewards will have supplies of black ribbons to hand out.
You don’t have to be a UNISON member to take part. This affects us all - everyone who lives in, works in or visits the borough uses council services.
If you’re on Facebook, please invite your friends to the event page at

Messages of solidarity will be gratefully received.
Show your solidarity. Wear it black. Monday 6 January.
