Photo essay: Barnet’s disastrous privatisation of elderly care
Photo: Careworker Lango Gamanga
This is a short photo essay about the problems with privatising care services for the elderly in Barnet.
Over about three years, @skinnyvoice from deptfordvisions.com and I met regularly with a group of North London careworkers who were in dispute with their private sector employer over cuts to their salaries and working conditions. The photo essay follows their dispute from 2006 to the present day.
Barnet council workers will take strike action again on October 18 in protest at their council's plans to mass-privatise council services. This essay shows how counterproductive some of Barnet council's relationships with the private sector have been.
